About the Bayonne Rugby Football Club

Founded in 1989, the Bayonne Rugby Football Club competes in Division II of the Met-NY Rugby Football Union.

The Bombers were founded by a group of ex-college rugby players and ex-pats who were interested in continuing their passion for the game.  While the names have changed over the year, the Club is still largely comprised of international born players as well as former American college rugby and football players.

Drawing mostly from Hoboken, Bayonne and Jersey City, NJ and surrounding towns, the Club boasts over 60 players from 12 nations.

The Bombers enjoy a proud history, and have captured both the Met-NY Division II (2003) and III (1999) regular season titles.  In addition to the league championships, the Bombers have captured first place in many local tournaments, including the Lansdowne Tournament (1997, 1998, 1999), the Monmouth Cup (2000 and 2007), the Long Island Tournament (2002).

In addition to A, B and Old Boys Sides, the Club also fields a ‘7’s’ side each summer, competing in some of he top tournaments in the Northeast.  in 2007 the Bayonne 7’s side captured first place in the Cheesesteak 7’s Tournament as well as the NJ 7’s Tournament (repeating as champions).  They also made it to the semi-finals of the Newport, RI 7’s Tournament, which is the largest 7’s tournament on the east coast.

An active social schedule is highlighted by our annual spring tour where the Bombers have taken on the local sides in such destinations as Ireland, Bahamas, Bermuda, Grand Cayman, Tortola and Turks and Caicos.

Bayonne’s contributions do not end on the field.  Over the years we have organized events that have raised thousands of dollars each year for such charitable organizations as the American Cancer Society, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Bayonne Community Cancer Support Group, Toys for Tots, the St. Baldrick’s Fdtn., and the Hoboken Homeless Shelter.

We are always looking for new players of all levels of experience.  Prospective members should contact Mick Grealy at mgrealy73@hotmail.com
